What God Expects in Response to Extraordinary Providence

I am grateful to James Campbell from Connecticut for passing this on. It is an outline of Section 11 of Thomas Vincent's "God's Terrible Voice in the City" it was published in 1667, following the Great Plague and Fire in London in the years 1665 and 1666. I have taken the liberty of replacing London with Britain. I have only included the first thirteen because the remaining seven deal more with the loss of homes in the fire.

The Duties which God expects from Britain.

1. God expects that Britain should AWAKE.

2. God expects that Britain should stand in AWE of him.

3. God expects that Britain should now SEARCH and TRY OUR WAYS.

4. God expects that Britain should ACKNOWLEDGE OUR SINS unto him.

5. God expects that Britain should be HUMBLED under these judgments.

6. God expects that Britain should ACCEPT OF THE PUNISHMENT of our iniquity.

7. God expects that Britain should MOURN for our sins.

8. God expects that Britain should TURN from our evil ways.

9. God expects that Britain should SEEK him.

10. God calls upon Britain ... to PREPARE FOR GREATER TROUBLES.

11. God expects that Britain should trust no more in arms of flesh -- but in Himself alone.

12. God expects that Britain should have DEATH in continual remembrance.

13. God expects that Britain should retain great impressions of ETERNITY.
